Outlook connection status window explained

(this may be an already discussed topic, in that case feel free to answer with a hyperlink to another technet forum topic)

Dear all,

I am looking for a technet blog post, that explains all the tiny little details of the "Connection status" window, that is accessible if I CTRL+right click on the Outlook 2010 tray bar. I would like to receive some very professional and at least Level 300 explanation of all the possible information visible in this troubleshooting window. Unfortunately there are hundreds of hits for this search term, I find it nearly impossible to find that single article that is right for me.

Richard

PS: I think my question wasnt posted in the best topic, I would like to ask an admin to move it into the proper category under Exchange server

Hello,

I have mixed Exchange environment, Exchange 2010 SP3 Rollup5 and Exchange 2013 SP1. CAS service is handeled by Exchange 2013.

Recently I moved some mailboxes from Exchange 2013 to 2010. Since than ActiveSync has not been working for them.

Error message:

Exception message: The mailbox of user aaaaa@bbb.com that is located on a server that is running version 14 can't be opened on a server that is running version 15.
Source: MSExchangeActiveSync

EventID:1008

Other users with mailbox on Exchange 2013 are able to sync. More over, mailboxes that are located on 2010 don't have also sync issue, just those that were moved withnew-moverequest

Thanks for any idea.

Shared calendar via ActiveSync? When will it be possible to do this without 3rd party software?

Shared calendar via ActiveSync?  When will it be possible to do this without 3rd party software?

In our Exchange 2007 days we used to be able to view shared calendars via OWA on devices with an Internet Browser by adding the shared calendar primary SMTP address, like this:

https://mail.domain.com/owa/user@domain.com/?cmd=contents&module=calendar but looks like that functionality has been removed.

Any thoughts?

Exchange on Local LAN prompting password for IOS devices and not accepting

Hi,

I have users that have Exchange email account setup on their iPad/iphone(ios5,6,8) (Wi-Fi only) and it works fine when they are away from the company. When they are connected to the companies Wi-Fi and is on the same local subnet as the Exchange server they can't connect to the server. They receive this error "Password is not correct. Enter a password for Exchange account" We tried to enter the password multiple times in multiple devices but doesn`t accept. Does anybody have any ideas?

-Exchange 2013

-DNS win 2012, We have DNS records for local and global domain names.

-We tried with iphone 4s, Ipad air2, iphone 5

-We don`t have any problem with Laptops (win 7). They are using Outlook anywhere settings, too.

Thank you very much in advance.

Cannot send large messages from iphone. It says "Your mailbox is full"

I have an iphone with my exchange account set up with activesync and it works fine for sending and receiving email - except when I try to send emails about 10MB or larger. They just get stuck in the outbox and a message pops up saying "Cannot send mail""Your mailbox is full"I checked and my mailbox is currently 28% full.

I checked with our exchange admin and the message size limit on our server is 25MB, and I can send large messages up to that size to and from outlook on my desktop with no problems. I tried deleting and recreating the exchange account on my iphone but it made no difference. I tried sending large emails from my iphone using a gmail address and that works fine. I can even send the large email from the gmail account on my iphone to my exchange account and receive it in outlook on my desktop, but I cannot send email larger than 8-9 MB from Mail on my iPhone!

Does anyone have any idea where the problem might be?

Sync shared calendar on iOS

Hi all,

I am trying to figure out how to get shared  calendar on iOS/. On my outlook account, i can see calendars shared by my colleagues, it is appear normally on outlook.

When i set my corporate mail account on device, either iOS or android (calendar sync is turn on),  i can see only my own calendar, cannot see shared calendar from my colleague. I read on some link that i need to add my colleague account on my device, and sync his calendar. I am not sure it is the right way because he needs to enter his password on my device, and i can easily turn on mail sync from his account on and off...

I read how to publish it via this URL, but the publishing is "too public", if you know what i mean, anyone has the calendar publishing link can open, without have to logon to corporate mail first.

http://www.stevieg.org/2010/06/calendar-sharing-improvements-coming-in-exchange-2010-sp1/

And let say when my colleague publish his calendar, he selected it 3 months before and after today, and then 3 months later, will i be able to see further meeting from my colleague calendar? Or does he have to re-share it 3 months later / create new share link?

Does exchange support this feature with the safer way?

With gmail, i can automatically see all calendars shared to my gmail account on iOS calendar, i am not sure how to achieve this with exchange.

ActiveSync policies in Windows 8 Mail client

$

I'm having an issue with ActiveSync policies remaining on Windows 8 machines after the corporate account they are coming from is removed from the mail client.  I have tried all ways of removing the account...remove in the app, delete from the server, perform a remote wipe from the server, and uninstalling the entire mail app.  None of these have produced the desired outcome of the policies being removed when the email account is removed.  Any help/ideas is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Mobile devices do not sync any old calendar items

$

Hi

In our office after applying some particular patches, we have run into issues regarding synchronizing devices (Windows Phone, iPhone and Android phones). We see that the mobile devices do not sync any calendar items which were created (and have occurrences in the future as well as past) in the past (prior to applying this patch). Initially we could not sync the emails either but after we deleted the the device association with the server, the email sync started working while we still dont have calendar sync working.

So my hunch is there is some corruption in the sync state of the exchange server and the devices which makes it so that the older items are not synching. has anybody heard of sync issue?

Is there a way to "delete the cache of the sync status of the server" to help force sync with all mobile devices?

As you can imagine, this is a critical issue as our sales folks use mobiles for the most jobs. Any help will be appreciated.

Did EAS Certificate Based Authentication Go Away With Exchange 2013?

I am not seeing any official Microsoft documentation anywhere referring to the procedure for setting up certificate based authentication for Exchange ActiveSync for Exchange 2013.  I only see references to Exchange 2010.

I also notice a link referring to troubleshooting certificate based authentication on Exchange 2013 has been removed by Microsoft:

Did they remove this feature in Exchange 2013?

OWA Mobile App (Push) for iOS + Android

$

We have an Exchange 2013 server in hybrid mode with a few O365 e-mail accounts that we are trying out.  We wanted to play around with the iOS OWA app so I enabled push as stated via the following URL: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn511017(v=exchg.150).aspx

I am curious to know why (atleast for the iOS OWA App) appointments are pushed to the locked screen / notification area but e-mails are ONLY pushed to the icon (as per the the image below)?

It doesn't seem too useful to me if one of the basic functions to Exchange (push e-mail) is a hassle to view.  I don't see any advantages (atleast for our organization) to switch from the built in ActiveSync to this app... in fact I see this as a huge disadvantage.  How does this make sense when mail is the core of the software?!?

ActiveSync for Linked Mailboxes - not syncing

Hello Everyone,

Our Customer organization consists of mixed Exchange 2013/2007 Environment and they are in the process of moving rest of mailboxes to the new environment.
Unfortunately after moving some linked mailboxes to the Exchange 2013 Env. they discovered that those migrated users cannot connect by their smartphones.

ExRca for the each linked mailbox  generate following Error (bellow OPTIONS section)

The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive.
 System.Net.WebException  at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse() at Microsoft.Exchange.Tools.ExRca.Extensions.RcaHttpRequest.GetResponse()
Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.
 Type: System.IO.IOException  at System.Net.Sockets.NetworkStream.Read(Byte[] buffer, Int32 offset, Int32 size) at System.Net.FixedSizeReader.ReadPacket(Byte[] buffer, Int32 offset, Int32 count)
at System.Net.Security._SslStream.StartFrameHeader(Byte[] buffer, Int32 offset, Int32 count, AsyncProtocolRequest asyncRequest) at System.Net.Security._SslStream.StartReading(Byte[] buffer, Int32 offset, Int32 count, AsyncProtocolRequest asyncRequest)
at System.Net.Security._SslStream.ProcessRead(Byte[] buffer, Int32 offset, Int32 count, AsyncProtocolRequest asyncRequest) at System.Net.TlsStream.Read(Byte[] buffer, Int32 offset, Int32 size) at System.Net.PooledStream.Read(Byte[] buffer, Int32 offset, Int32 size) at System.Net.Connection.SyncRead(HttpWebRequest request, Boolean userRetrievedStream, Boolean probeRead) Message An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host Type: System.Net.Sockets.SocketException  at System.Net.Sockets.NetworkStream.Read(Byte[] buffer, Int32 offset, Int32 size)

The connections for the Ex2007 users are established through the another (separated) reverse proxy and sync for the regural and linked mailboxes works well.
They published ActiveSync for the Exchange 2013 users by preparing the new DNS name and  the new public IP address (for the separation of the Exchange 2007 mailboxes connection).

So all connections for the regular Exchange 2013 mailboxes going well , unfortunately except Exchange 2013 linked mailboxes (regardless of witch linked mailbox smtp domain we choose)

ActiveSync Web Directory settings for each exchange 2013 server are as follows:

New Exchange CAS (adding 3rd to environment) - Test-ActiveSyncConnectivity fails on "Scenario: PING"

$

I've added a third CAS to our existing environment, which has operated with 2 CAS for years. All pre-requisite steps were followed, the CAS certificate is correct, and this CAS has matching settings on all applications to one of the other CAS (except of course where a setting refers specifically to this CAS' hostname, etc.). I am QA'ing before deploying this one to production behind our HLB. When I run Test-ActiveSyncConnectivity, it always fails on the Ping scenario. On both of my other CAS servers, this test runs all the way through quickly. There is no firewall on this server, and no firewall between it and other servers. Can any one help? I've searched all over and found no one else reporting this specific failure point for this cmdlet. Thanks!

Remote Admin message to users on Exchange 2013

Hello,

I am currently working with a client post Exchange 2013 migration and we have noticed that when a user configures activesync on their personal device, they are no longer notified that the IT department has the ability to remote wipe.

Here's a link to an sample image of a similar message that they used to receive.

http://www.slsmk.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/as-error1.jpg

Is there a way to re-enable this message in Exchange 2013?  We also have a device policy that has been set up.  Could the policy be the reason that the message no longer appears?  If this is no longer available in Exchange 2013, is there some sort of notification that can be set up to inform the user?

Thanks,
Dean

Windows 8 Phone - Policy Error 8600C2B

I have seen this post:

https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2464593?wa=wsignin1.0

We are trying to sync a Win 8 phone and we get the error code 8600C2B when trying to sync. When running the A/S logs I see the errors:

AccessState :
Blocked

AccessStateReason :
Policy

In our policy we have nothing configured for passwords which pertains to the above KB, and allow all functionality on the mobile device. In addition, our A/S policy already has enabled (checked) the option for: "Allow Non-provisionable Devices"

Can anyone suggest additional methods for troubleshooting?

Has anyone succesfully sync'ed a Win 8 phone against Ex2010/3?
