My organization enforces very long passwords, and encourages the use of passphrases. A VIP recently approached me stating that his new 18 character passwod wouldn't work on his iPhone with ActiveSync. We did a test and successfully used a 20 character password.
Now some Microsoft articles insinuate that there is an ActiveSync password limit of 16 or 18 characters, like these:

(OK I had another link to a PDF on ActiveSync and Windows Phone 8 but seem to have lost it)
This stikes me as odd because when have the federal desktop standard of 12 characters, and passwords with less than 14 characters having inherent weaknesses in many environments, we would be penned into a tight corner if Activesync only limited us to 16 or 18 characters when a 50 character password works just fine in Windows. Can anyone offer a definitive answer? Does ActiveSync have inherent limitations on password length or characters allowed as compared to native Windows?
