Exchange 2013 - Mobile Exchange account can't send or receive email

New install of Exchange 2013 trial.  I believe it is standard.

Outlook 2010 from desktop on local LAN can send and receive mail fine.

OWA from internal LAN or external public place works and can send and receive mail fine.

Mobile device (iphone 5 latest ios 7.1.1) Exchange account detects settings (autodiscover?) fine and lets me add the account.  The mobile account cannot send or receive mail though.  Error popup says "cannot get mail. connection to the server failed".

I have run the connectivity tool,

https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com

and it passes the Exchange ActiveSync test.

I have also manual set server dns settings according to this post,

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/c641492e-a84f-4a76-bca7-46dffc3944e7/exchange-2013-send-receive-email-problem?forum=exchangesvrgeneral

and restarted transport services.

Under servers->DNS lookups, I have tried all three settings...All available, NIC settings, and custom settings.

my hosts file has two entries, one for my internal IP and one public IP mapping to "mail.mydomain.com  mail.local  mail"

ping mail.mydomain.com  resolves to the correct ip

nslookup MY_MAIL_IP reverse resolves the correct name

I have an SSL cert installed for mail.mydomain.com and autodiscover.mydomain.com

What am I missing or where do I look for my information on this mobile mail issue?  Thanks.
