Setting up Android with Exchange 2013

Hello All,

Our shop is still an Exchange 2003 shop. I have set up Exchange 2013 in our lab, for testing. So far everything is working great, except the mobile connection.....

I'm presently testing with my phone (Galaxy III). I am successfule connecting and accessing my mailbox from the 2003 Server. But with the 2013 server, I'm able to connect but all I get is the spinning circle.

From my research, I'm suppose to log into the EAC and set the type of phone in the Device Access Rules, but when I look at the phone types, I only see EASProbeDeviceType.

Am I missing something?

Thanks

Activesync autopoulates wrong information UPN is incorrect

Hi,

New Exchange 2013 Sp1 install, never used Exchange before.  OWA works fine, no cert issues, Outlook 2013 client connects fine.  I am having a problem where on any mobile device if I enter a users email address and password and click next, it comes back with incorrect username in the domain field and an incomplete server name.  I have verified all server names are correct in ECP for all virtual directories, outlook.domain.com , but servername for activesync comes back as just domain.com. I can't see whre this is controlled.  I have check the Authentication in IIS7, for active sync and autodiscover. For a user like James Smith, username comes back as \jsmith but our usernames are \smitjame (4lettersoflastname4lettersoffirstname.  I know weird but that is our username for every system for the last 20 years.  I can manually configure devices of course but would rather not.  We have Active Directory and all users exist there and are sync'd to our primary ldap directory store (eDir).  The Pre-Windows 2000 account name is accurate to match smitjame.  I cannot find any reference to a format jsmith other than in our email address.

Any ideas how to solve or control the username that gets auto populated and the servername that is fed?

Thanks

The effect of activesync policy on the enduser

(this may be an already discussed topic, in that case feel free to answer with a hyperlink to another technet forum topic)

Dear all,

I am looking for a way to check the effects of an applied activesync policy on our mobile devices / tablets. I do not have any admin permissions on the Exchange environment, but I have to check and confirm what settings have been applied as the result of the Mobile policies set up in our Exchange 2010 environment.

Is there any way to check what system settings have been altered on WP8 phones and Windows 8 Pro / RT tablets?

Is there a way to sync your Exchange password with the mobile device

Good day

We are installing Exchange 2013 on Server 2012, we have over 400 users with mobile devices (iphone 5, ipad and Blackberry 10)

We were wondering if there is a way to sync either your domain password  or your exchange password so u have only one password to change when it becomes expired. If the previous question is possible we would like to additionally automatically sync your domain or exchange password with your your mobile device so u wouldnt have to change your email password on the mobile device as well once u change it within the domain or exchange.

Exchange - Active Sync - Calendar - Mobile sync, all information at a specific date and older is deleted.

Hello, I'm a IT Consultant. One of our users has lost their calendar entries from 2013 August and older. We do have a recovery solution to get this data back, but to prevent this from ever happening again. Is there a option to do so?

What we so far figured out is that there might have been an issue with the sync between the device and the server. That in the case the phone found out it didn't have enough space for all calendar entries, it deleted the old ones instead of ignoring it. This could be wrong though.

We just found this out so the user does not know what type of phone he used when this occured. But the default mail app was used.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks.

Exchange 2013 Migration - Activesync breaks for some users after mailbox move

$

I have run into an issue where some users after migrating their accounts from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 (sp1), their devices which were configured and working with an activesync device association fails to connect (the device says "the connection to the server failed"). I tried doing the testexchangeconnectivity.com test, and it fails for these affected users with an HTTP 500 (

Exchange ActiveSync returned an HTTP 500 response (Internal Server Error).HTTP Response Headers:
MS-ASProtocolCommands: Sync,SendMail,SmartForward,SmartReply,GetAttachment,GetHierarchy,CreateCollection,DeleteCollection,MoveCollection,FolderSync,FolderCreate,FolderDelete,FolderUpdate,MoveItems,GetItemEstimate,MeetingResponse,Search,Settings,Ping,ItemOperations,Provision,ResolveRecipients,ValidateCert
MS-ASProtocolVersions: 2.0,2.1,2.5,12.0,12.1,14.0,14.1
MS-Server-ActiveSync: 15.0

X-CalculatedBETarget: EXCHANGE-mb2.MYDOMAIN.LOCAL

X-DiagInfo: EXCHANGE-MB2
X-FEServer: EXCHANGE-CAS1
X-MS-BackOffDuration: L/-230

It is a very small percentage of users who are having this issue. Just to test, I tried to provision my personal account which is also on Exchange 2013 on the affected users phones, and it works just fine. No issues. So I am convinced it is something wrong with their individual account.

Nothing shows up in get-mobiledevicestatistics for these users, I expected their previously provisioned devices to migrate over, but it appears this is not the case. And trying to provision new devices does not work. You can run the activesync setup on the phone, and it appears to work, but when you check messages, it gives the error.

Any ideas?

Delay in ActiveSync after Mailbox Move from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013

$

After a mailbox move from Exchange 2010 to 2013, there seems to be an hour or so delay before ActiveSync starts working again for that mailbox. External and internal DNS is pointing to the Exchange 2013 CAS, which proxies everything just fine for mailboxes still on the Ex2010 server. After a mailbox move from Ex2010 to Ex2013, Outlook and OWA work perfectly fine and get proxied to the proper mailbox by the Ex2013 CAS immediately, but activesync does not for about an hour or so.

Running the ExRCA for Activesync with the credentials of the mailbox that just moved it fails at the Attempting to send the OPTIONS command to the server, with a HTTP 403: forbidden. Interestingly, even though the mailbox is fully on the Ex2013 server, it seems that the Ex2013 CAS is still trying to proxy the activesync session to the Ex2010 mailbox (in the ExRCA error, theX-CalculatedBETarget is still pointing to the Ex2010 server), and since the user is no longer on that mailbox you get the permission error. If you wait an hour or so after the mailbox has moved everything starts working properly and X-CalculatedBETarget points to the proper server when you run the ExRCA.

So my question is: is it normal for there to be a delay in ActiveSync after moving the mailbox? Is there some kind of cache on the Ex2013 CAS for proxies that just takes a while to time out before it starts proxying activesync to the proper mailbox? is there any way to change this behavior if it is normal? Both Ex2010 and Ex2013 servers are in the same AD site, so there isn't any cross-site AD replication lag, and I'm not seeing any ActiveSync related errors in any of the logs. Thanks!

(Also I should note, the accounts I've tested moving are just normal AD accounts that have the 'Inherit permissions' checked in AD. I'm aware of the issue with privileged AD accounts sometimes not getting the proper Exchange permissions inherited causing ActiveSync to fail, but that is not the case here)

KeepAlive settings for Exchange 2013 environment

$

Hello All,

We have very weired problem in our environment. Our environment consists of 10 Exchange 2013 multi-role servers in Primary DC with Wind 2012 OS and 5 servers in Secondary DC with Wind 2012. We have F5 LB & Cisco f/w

Sometime back users reported the outlook disconnection issue and we've implemented following settings in the environment based on MS support team recommendation

1) Configure the Idle session time out on the Network devices to 2 hours.

 2) Add the registry key “MinimumConnectionTimeout” with value as 120 seconds as per below article on all the Exchange 2013 Servers. Once this registry key is added, we need to restart the Server for the changes to take effect..

 Path: HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\RPC

Type: REG_DWORD

Name: MinimumConnectionTimeout

Value: 120 (Decimal)

 3) Add the KeepAliveTime registry key on all the Exchange 2013 Servers to reduce the Keep alive from default 2 hours to 5 minutes. Once this registry key is added, we need to restart the Server for the changes to take effect.

 Path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TCPIP\Parameters

 Value name: KeepAliveTime

Type: REG_DWORD

Value: 300000 (Decimal)

This value controls how frequently TCP tries to verify that an idle connection is still intact by sending a keep-alive packet. If the remote computer is still reachable, it acknowledges the keep-alive packet. The recommended value setting is 300,000 (5 minutes).

After applying these settings we've started facing the ACTIVESYNC issue in the environment. We've changed the keep alive setting in exchange server to 29 mins and now activesync issue is solved but outlook disconnect issue started

IS THERE ANYONE who can recommend what is the correct KEEP ALIVE value should be kept in such environment

Our environment has 27K mailboxes totally spread across 50 DBs apprx

Appreciate experts help here !!!

Certificate and Active Directory Authentication

I'm looking for a method of adding additional security to my company's exchange server, and so far I've found certificate authentication would be the best.

However, from my research it appears that certificate authentication is designed to replace password authentication, If that is correct can Exchange be configured to authenticate both?

Thanks

My Sony Xperia Z1 running Android 4.2.2 has a major problem synchronizing contacts with birthdays through activesync Exchange server 2013.

When editing a contact which has a birthday set, synchronizing will fail.

It will only work if the contact was created on the device or the birthday itself has been changed on the device.

Scenario 1:
1) Create contact with birthday, e.g. in Outlook.
2) Sync it to the Exchange server.
3) Sync Sony Xperia Z1  with the Exchange server -> Contact will appear.
4) Try to edit contact on Sony Xperia Z1 and sync with Exchange server again.
--> Contact synchronization fails.
5) Edit contact on Sony Xperia Z1  and set birthday to another date. Then set original date again.
6) Sync Sony Xperia Z1 with Exchange server.
--> Contact synchronization successful.

Scenario 2:
1) Create contact with birthday on Sony Xperia Z1 .
2) Sync it to the Exchange server.
4) Try to edit contact on Sony Xperia Z1  and sync with Exchange server again.
--> Contact synchronization successful.

Scenario 3:
1) Create contact with birthday on Sony Xperia Z1 .
2) Sync it to the Exchange server.
3) Clear contact storage on Sony Xperia Z1 or remove Exchange account and add it again.
4) Re-sync with Exchange server.
5) Try to edit contact on Sony Xperia Z1  and sync with Exchange server again.
--> Contact synchronization fails.
6) Edit contact on Sony Xperia Z1  and set birthday to another date. Then set original date again.
7) Sync Sony Xperia Z1  with Exchange server.
--> Contact synchronization successful.

Login not working even if the password is right

Greetings,

We have a strange problem with our users happening in the morning on their mobile devices (Samsung Galaxy, Ipads, etc.): event if the password is stored on the device it's being asked again and after entering the correct one it keeps saying that it's incorrect. I found that restarting the IIS service on the Exchange server seems to resolve the issue and everything starts to work again until the next morning.

Do you have any idea on what could be causing the problem or where I can start investigating?

Migrating Samsung S4 phones from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010---

$

Hello all.  Thanks for taking the time to look at this question.

I have multiple Samsung S4 user mailboxes that exist on Exchange 2003.  I want to migrate them to Exchange 2010 without touching the  phones.

Here is a working process for Iphones:

1.  Perform a new local move request to move the mailbox from E2K3 to E2K10.--No issues

2.  Point Public DNS from Old.com to New.com---This points the old DNS record of the old server to the new server.--This works.

At this point, the Iphone can send/receive email without issue.

When I perform the above steps on multiple Samsung S4s, I get login failed to the server popping up on the phone.  If I delete the exchange account from the Samsung S4, and add it again, it works.

Any thoughts so that I can seamlessly migrate my users?

Thanks

ABQ - Allow user exemption

Hi,

we are running Exchange 2013 SP1 and have Exchange ActiveSync Access Settings set to Quarantine any new device that tries to connect. This works well for the few users that have Activesync access allowed.

But now the person that hands out new mobiles to employees came up with an idea that even the employees that are not authorized to use Activesync against their mailbox should have all company contacts uploaded to their new phone when they get one.

So we came up with a dummy mailbox that has contacts imported from GAL (well... don't ask :) ) and the mobile guy connects each new phone via Activesync to the dummy account, synces the Contacts, deletes the account, and hands out the mobile to the user.

So this dummy accounts all of a sudden has hundreds of mobile devices connecting via Activesync and ending up in Quarantine.

Is there any way to set up an exemption for the dummy account, that any new device can connect regardless of the device type and not end up in Quarantine ? I know about the ActiveSyncAllowedDeviceIDs parameter for a mailbox, but this only works for known devices afaik, so I'd need something like Set-CASMailbox dummyaccount -ActivesyncAllowedDevicesIDs *

Any help appreciated
